TERM FOUR

Monday 14th October 2012

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to school!  I hope you have all had an enjoyable 2 weeks off school with your children.

This term is just over 9 weeks and it is going to fly by very fast I am sure. We have lots of things planned and events coming up.

Please ensure that your child has a school Sunhat at school everyday this Term. School Sunhats are compulsory in Term 4 & 1 and we have a No Hat, No Play Policy.

This week is our first of 3 sessions in Tennis. We are also starting the first of 2 sessions in Life Education with Harold and our focus is “Being Happy & Healthy.”

On Tuesday 23rd October the Middle and Senior School will have their Athletics Day. Everyone is welcome to come along to school and watch your child/ren participate in all aspects of our School Athletics. We would love to see your there. Postponement date is Thursday 25th October. Please make sure that your son or daughter has plenty of food and drink, also their sunhat on the day.

 Literacy:

This Term our Writing focus is Report writing. We will be writing a variety of Reports for example Reporting an event from our Athletics Day.

Our reading programme will stay the same as last Term.

 Numeracy:

We will continue to focus on Multiplication (x2 , x5, x10) basic facts. Also this Term we will be starting a Fractions / Proportions and Ratios Unit. It would be a great help if you can reinforce vocabulary learnt in class such as: whole, half or halves, quarter and three quarters when the opportunity arises at home for example while cutting fruit or vegetables.

 Topic:

Our Topic focus this Term is “Planet Earth and Beyond”. This promises to be an exciting Topic where the children will learn about the Earth, Planets, the Sun and the Moon. I am sure that all the Kowhai Kids will enjoy this last Topic of the year.

  Fitness / PE:

Continuing this Term is the North Canterbury Sports coaching every fortnight. Techniques taught during this session are reinforced during the week.

Swimming will take place in the school pool once the weather warms up and heats the pool to a suitable temperature.

 Visual Arts:

For Visual Art this Term we will be making a variety of items that relate to our Topic of Planet Earth & Beyond. Towards the end of the Term we will focus on Christmas art.
